AI in HR: The CHRO’s role in AI transformation
Leading global research and advisory firm, Gartner has explored how CHROs can reinvent HR to future-proof the workforce as AI reshapes business.
AI isn’t just about adopting new tools, but about leading people through rapid change, blending human ingenuity with machine intelligence to ensure organisations are future fit.
It is estimated that by 2030, the half-life of technical skills - how long a technical skill will lose half its value - will shrink to just two years, with more than 30 million jobs re-designed each year. Gartner believes that those that thrive won’t be the ones chasing the latest tech, but those whose HR leaders act as “architects of agility”.
In the article, Gartner looks at three areas they’ve highlighted as critical for CHROs to lead in: aligning AI with enterprise strategy, reinventing HR through intelligent experience and preparing the workforce for the future.
With more than 70% of enterprises investing in AI, but due to skills gaps and change resistance, many are struggling to realise its full potential. The message is clear, CHROs must encourage workforce upskilling, making organisations 2.5x more likely to achieve positive outcomes.

Fake CVs and the rising use of reference houses – how falsified employment history is wreaking havoc for HR
According to research from Standout CV, one in four people have lied about employer references. A rise in online forms offering fake reference services, and reference blackmarket sites such as CareerExcuse, where paid-for professional references, verification of employment, company e-mail address and websites are offered to support people’s job applications, has led to an increase in falsified employment history provided by potential job candidates.
UK unemployment has been rising since 2023, creating a tough labour market, and with stricter immigration rules, more and more are using these paid-for services to gain traction in the labour market, or to appear employed for UK visas.
Chris Garner, managing director of HR and employment law consultancy Avensure explains that these problems are causing real challenges for HR teams, as false references present real risks to businesses as they risk hiring unqualified candidates and potential safeguarding, legal or regulatory risks.
Employers must ensure references are verified before the stakes are higher, particularly as employment law changes.
